Fine living in south-west France
Les Jardins de la France... That's what the French call the region here, and rightly so. The landscape here is a succession of small valleys where every time a beautiful surprise emerges, a beautiful village by the river or an old walled bastide on the hill. You can't get bored, each village is unique.
And the villages are alive too, every week there is the market, an important social event, where one can find out the latest news but also for buying fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and local specialities.... In summer, of course, there are the festivals and concerts, not forgetting the big fireworks on ‘14 juillet’.
It is a region that has really preserved its authenticity yet is easily accessible, between Bordeaux and Toulouse, south of Bergerac west of Cahors.
Agen is the capital of the department, in Villeneuve is the centre of the well-known ‘Pruneau d'Agen’, the well-known dried plums. Through Villeneuve Sur Lot runs the beautiful Lot River, ideal for a blissful boat trip, a fishing trip or a cosy pic-nic on its banks. Hiking, cycling, horse riding are very popular here.
